Strait of Gibraltar · Northern Morocco
Tangier sits where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, with Spain visible across the strait on a clear day. Long an international city — administered jointly by foreign powers from 1923 to 1956 — it drew Matisse, Paul Bowles, William Burroughs and the Rolling Stones. Today it's the polished modern gateway to northern Morocco: a 35-minute ferry from Tarifa, a 2h drive to Chefchaouen, and a 4h drive (or 2h train) to Fes.

Yes, especially if you're entering Morocco from Spain or building a northern loop (Tangier → Chefchaouen → Fes). It's also the most cosmopolitan and modern of Morocco's old cities.
Two nights is the sweet spot — one day for the kasbah and medina, one for Cap Spartel and a long lunch.
